DV Tuesday Jazz Ensemble earns 1st Place in Jazz Festival (two years in a row)

Congratulations to the Desert Vista Tuesday Jazz Ensemble for earning FIRST PLACE in the High School Division at the Highland/ASU Jazz Festival on April 6, 2013! The band scored a 90 out of 100 which made DVHS the highest scoring High School Big Band for the second year in a row. Congratulations to Mr. Krill, Director of Jazz Studies, and the talented students of the DV Band Program for such a great job!

The students were also amazed by two great guest artists. Legendary trumpet performer Byron Stripling played and sang his way into the students’ hearts on Friday night. Bassist Rufus Reed also displayed legendary skill on Saturday night. Both artists were showcased with the amazing ASU Concert Big Band, directed by ASU Jazz Professor Michael Kocour.

Thank you to our DV Director of Bands, Mr. Josh Thye, the DV Band Boosters and parents, and Dr. Battle and the administrative team for supporting the Jazz Program. Great students, great school, and great community…Go Thunder!
