National Jazz Festival & SmartMusic bring new competitive category

The National Jazz Festival has collaborated with SmartMusic to bring this new competitive category – including free full access to their software program until June 30, 2021.

Learn how to use SmartMusic by attending a free Zoom clinic with Ted Scalzo, Higher Ed Consultant of Smartmusic,
this Tuesday March 16 at 8 pm EST (5 pm in AZ!)
Open and free for all to attend.
Registration not required.
As an added bonus for participants, SmartMusic ensembles will receive full SmartMusic premium subscriptions from now until June 30, 2021!  We hope that you will enjoy exploring all that SmartMusic has to offer, and we thank SmartMusic for supporting the NJF and Jazz Education!
Gordon Goodwin will also host an exclusive, live interactive Zoom clinic on May 22 at the NJF, along with lead players of the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band, including Wayne Bergeron (lead trumpet), Eric Marienthal (sax), Andy Martin (trombone), and Ray Brinker (drums).  The National Jazz Festival is overjoyed by the collaborative support of SmartMusic and Alfred Music to provide this phenomenal educational experience for students!

In the SmartMusic large ensemble category, we are happy to present Gordon’s new tribute to Sammy Nestico called “My Man Sam”!
This chart was written in the style of Sammy Nestico and the ranges are reasonable for high school ensembles.  It’s a great opportunity to get exposure to both Gordon’s writing and Sammy’s style. The SmartMusic large ensembles will record “My Man Sam” and submit it to the NJF by May 15.

Participants in our SmartMusic small ensemble category will record Gordon’s “Little Phat Shuffle” and submit the recording to the NJF by May 15.
