Band Booster Nominees

The following are the bios for the 2020-2021 DV Band Booster Board nominees.  Election will be held March 4th at 7 PM in the Orchestra Room.

Nominated for President – Jaime Vigil
My name is Jaime Vigil and would love to have your support as the President of the Band Executive Board again next year. I have been part of this sensational program since 2014 and honestly, can’t remember life before the Band/Guard Mom gig took over. These have been some of the best years with memories I will forever cherish. I only hope to help create opportunities for every member and parent to share in the happiness that our program creates.

I currently have 2 children in the band program and one child who has graduated out. My daughter, Catherine, graduated in 2018 and was a 4-year member of Winter Guard, 3-year member of Marching Band (Color Guard), Section Leader of the Guard, and she played trumpet in Concert and Symphonic Band. My daughter, Raechel, is a Senior and a 4-year member of the Marching Band (Color Guard), 2-year member of Winter Guard, 2-year in Steel Drum Band and she used to play flute in the Concert and Symphonic Bands. My son, Logan, is a Junior and a 3-year member of Marching Band (Baritone) and plays Euphonium in Concert and Symphonic Bands. I have 2 younger boys as well, Kingston and Brady, and they walk the DV campus as if they attend there as well – compliments of being volunteer sidekicks. Truth is, I feel as though I have so many more kids than my own in the band program because of how wonderful our band village is.

Years ago, when I had my own marching band experience in high school, we had an amazing staff and a group of band parents that helped make it an experience that one could never forget. I thought I had a full understanding of the time and effort each of them made back then but now being on the other side, I have even more adoration for them. I now know that they did so much more than I could have ever dreamed – because our own parent volunteers are nothing short of AMAZING! My teenage self took mental notes of how the parent volunteers worked together, how they became a strong network for the staff and students, and most of all, the love, support and commitment they had to not only their own child but to all of us. Their influence was immeasurable. Those parent volunteers helped me define the kind of parent I wanted to be one day.

Over the last 6 years, I have volunteered in a number of ways.

  • Current President of the Band Booster Executive Board
  • Committee Chair for Team Hydrate (aka Water Mom) for the last 5 Marching Band seasons
  • Chaperoned and helped support in a wide range of capacities for Concert Band Clinics, MB Summer Camps, Winter Guard California/Vegas Trips and MB California Trips
  • Volunteered in multiple fashions for the last 5 Thunder in the Hills Invitationals and our newest
hosted show, Winter Guard Storm Center Invitational
  • Assisted other volunteer areas when support was needed such as uniform help, concert uniform
sewing alterations, pictures, unloading trucks, assistance with snacks, errands necessary for
equipment or supplies for events, first aid, ABODA regionals, assist with hotel research and
    reservations, etc.

I accepted the nomination for President of the Band Executive Board so I can further assist Mr. Thye, the Executive Board, Band Parents and most of all, the wonderful students in all of the band programs. I look forward to accepting new challenges and working together to create the best possible experience for everyone in our extraordinary band program.

Thank you for your consideration.

Go Thunder,
Jaime Vigil

Nominated for VP – Diane Del Rio

Hello, my name is Diane Olea-Del Rio, and I am honored to be nominated for Band Booster VP. Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been a Desert Vista Parent for seven years now and have been involved with various programs throughout that time. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and have been assisting with the care of our wrestlers since my eldest was a freshman, seven years ago, and continue that role today. Last year I added on the role of First Aide chair during the Marching Band season and joined the “roadie” family. I absolutely fell in love with the band program and can say that my time volunteering was one of my rewarding experiences. I would be happy to expand my involvement with the band program, should I be elected. Out side of work and school I also foster sick, injured and homeless animals, in fact our first patient at thunder in the hills was an injured bird that was trapped in the baseball nets, those that were volunteering that day, and remember, will be happy to hear that our patient’s wing has since healed and he has been reintroduced to the area.

Nominated for Secretary – Chanelle DeGraff
My name is Chanelle DeGraff, and I am running for Band Booster Secretary. For the past five years, I have enjoyed being a band mom. I continually find myself in awe, watching all of the students grow musically and personally. My oldest daughter (Lauryn) marched piccolo her freshman year, and tenor sax her remaining three years at Desert Vista. She played the flute for Concert and Symphonic band. She is currently attending Grand Canyon University in Glendale. Jasmyn is a junior and is the drum major for marching band and plays tenor sax in Wind Ensemble. Kristyn is a freshman and plays clarinet for Marching and Concert band. My goal as Secretary is to support the band by fulfilling the requirements of the role while encouraging continuous improvement. Additionally, I believe my strong communication skills and organizational capabilities will help increase parental involvement in the booster organization. Some of my volunteer activities include:

  • Band President for Altadena Middle School band during the 2018-2019 school year.
  • DV staff Appreciation committee.
  • Current and prior DV Band Thunder Board Representative.
  • Assisting with band events serving in the hospitality area

Lastly, I am currently pursuing a degree in Naturopathic Medicine at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, in addition to my Nutrition degree from Arizona State University. If you feel my experience and accomplishments would support the band’s goals and mission, I would appreciate your vote.

Nominated for Treasurer – Nina Childers
I’m Nina Childers. My son is Bryce Childers, currently a junior at DV. He has been involved in the percussion group since 6th grade and part of the marching band drumline. I have been part of the band program for the past 3 years as a volunteer, chaperone, and currently serve as the band booster treasurer. I have 30+ years experience as an Office Manager and Book keeper. I have enjoyed being part of the program and look forward to being able to support them in the upcoming year.

Nominated for Thunder Board Rep – Elizabeth Stanbridge

My name is Elizabeth Stanbridge and I’m hoping to be your Thunderboard representative.  My son is a freshman who plays Bari Sax and any other instrument he can get his hands on!  During Marching Band season, I volunteered as a roadie, chaperone, and for first aid.  Volunteering enabled me to not only see the performances, but also see a lot of the coordination that had to happen behind the scenes. For many years I worked as a nurse in the Pediatric ICU and I now work in the Quality Department.  Working in these areas has taught me how to gently negotiate with a child who doesn’t want to get out of bed after surgery, support and explain the process to traumatized families, and collaborate with hospital staff and leadership on projects that will be beneficial to hospital quality and patient safety.  These skills will enable me to successfully act as liaison between the Thunderband Board and the DV Thunderboard.  Thank you for your consideration.
